Abstract generation in progress

The crypto exchange BtcTurk experienced another hack incident after a year. 48 million dollars worth of cryptoassets were suspiciously transferred from the exchange's hot wallets. The exchange was hacked again last year, and cryptoassets worth 55 million dollars were stolen. Thus, the total value of the cryptoassets stolen by the exchange in the last year reached 103 million dollars.

In the information shared by the blockchain security platform Cyvers, it was stated that the suspicious transfers in question occurred on the Ethereum (ETH), Avalanche (AVAX), Arbitrum (ARB), Base, Optimism (OP), Mantle, and Polygon (MATIC) networks. A significant portion of the funds was directed to two separate addresses, and then the attackers began converting the assets into different tokens through swap transactions.

In a statement made by the platform, it was indicated that communication had been established with exchange officials and that trading had been suspended. In the first official statement made by BtcTurk, the suspension of transactions was attributed to a "technical reason", while in another statement made immediately afterwards, an attack was accepted.

"The vast majority of assets are in cold wallets"

In the second statement of the exchange, it was stated that the "vast majority of assets" are held in secure cold wallets and that "user assets will not be affected due to BtcTurk's strong financial structure." The statement continued with the following phrases: "As a precaution, cryptocurrency deposit and withdrawal transactions have been temporarily suspended. They will be reopened once the work is completed. While our detailed investigations are ongoing, official authorities have been informed and all necessary security measures have been taken."

Last year, 55 million dollars had also been stolen.

Not long ago, in June of last year, BtcTurk was hacked once again, and at that time, it did not provide a clear explanation regarding the value of the cryptoassets stolen from its wallets. However, on-chain data indicated that approximately $55 million worth of assets were stolen by targeting hot wallets belonging to 10 different cryptocurrencies.

Blockchain analyst ZachXBT made a striking claim regarding last year's BtcTurk attack, suggesting that the $54 million AVAX transfer conducted on the same day could be linked to the attack. The 10% decrease in AVAX's value on the same day was also associated with the attack.

Suspicious SMS messages had caused concern

On the other hand, it has emerged that last week, some users were sent SMS messages using the name of the crypto exchange BtcTurk. According to the posts on the Şikayetvar platform, verification codes were sent to users who did not have a BtcTurk account, as if they were making transactions or were members of the exchange.
