  1. Understanding Intent: Top-down Anoma and Bottom-up TG Bot
  2. In-depth Intent: AI is the new UI - from complex commands to simple intents
  3. Navigation Intent: Evolution of the Intent Concept, Interaction Paradigms, Current Status and Trends
  4. Guiding Intent: Challenges and Prospects of Intelligent Web3 Interaction

In June, Paradigm published an article titled "Intent-Based Architectures and Their Risks", which introduced the concept of Intent( to the public for the first time. Related protocols and infrastructure rapidly developed, becoming a hot topic in the crypto community at the ETHCC conference in July.

Intention is not a new concept. As Mindao, the founder of DForce, said, the crypto space has been pursuing the ultimate abstraction and automation of operations. From aggregators, centralized exchanges, contract wallets to cross-chain DeFi, all these efforts are being made, along with Chainlink and the recent automated middleware and Telegram bots.

But the intention has brought new changes. In the past, the focus was on product interaction, while in the AGI era, the focus is on human-computer interaction. AI/LLM) large language models( contain immense potential for enhancing encrypted interactions.

01, Top-Down Anoma and Bottom-Up Unibot

In the past six months, agreements, projects, and infrastructure related to intentions have successively gained popularity. Here, we will take a glimpse through two typical examples.

Against the backdrop of serious homogenization in Layer 1, the Anoma Foundation has completed three rounds of financing with a total support of $57.8 million, relying on the intent-centric ) architecture and the Anoma ( Dapp full stack architecture ), as well as Namada ( privacy Layer 1 ), ranking 7th in terms of financing amount in the non-tokenized Layer 1/Layer 2.

Adrian Brink, the founder of Anoma, stated during his speech at EthCC that what makes Anoma unique is that all interactions begin with intention. The intentions expressed by users are processed through Anoma's black box architecture, realizing the core transaction process based on intention interaction.

  • User Interaction: Users send transparent, private, or protected intentions to the Anoma black box architecture.
  • Intent Collection and Matching: The parser collects intents, performs balance state transitions, and achieves counterparty matching.
  • Transaction Processing: The matched transactions are submitted to the crypto memory pool, and the validators send the blocks packaged by the proposers to the execution layer, completing execution and validity verification, and ultimately updating the state root.

The Anoma team has identified the pain points at the underlying layer of blockchain protocols, reviewing the architectural limitations from Bitcoin's scriptable settlement to Ethereum's programmable settlement, which has led to existing application protocols having at least one Web2 component, making it impossible to achieve counterparty discovery and resolution. They believe that the intention-centric Anoma architecture is the third generation Dapp architecture in the evolution of blockchain protocols, allowing users to define the desired outcome state and achieve efficient and customizable privacy transactions at the intention level.

Currently, Anoma is built by a team of 37 interdisciplinary members from Heliax, having formed a complete innovative ecosystem:

  • Anoma: Intent-Centric Universal Dapp Architecture
  • Namada: A privacy settlement Layer 1 of the Anoma ecosystem
  • AnomaVM: Simplifying DApp development on Anoma
  • Typhon: Improved consensus based on Cosmos
  • Taiga: Provides a composable privacy unified execution environment

Although institutions such as CMCC Global, Electric Capital, and Delphi Digital are optimistic about Anoma's potential, the current top-down approach has only laid the technical foundation and has yet to yield any exciting real-world applications.

In contrast, TG Bots like Unibot have opened up the imagination for the implementation of intent segmentation scenarios with on-chain automated trading tools. Unibot is a trading bot based on Telegram that allows users to conduct automated DEX trading through Telegram, offering features such as sniper buying, copy trading, DEX limit orders, privacy, and anti-MEV. Unibot replaces the cumbersome interactions of Uniswap based on intent, providing a convenient DeFi experience. Unibot has also spawned a batch of TG Bot clones, and the current total market capitalization of the TG Bot track is close to 200 million USD.

The Boom Behind TG Bot: Intent Trading is Knocking on the Door of Intelligent Interaction in Web3

Top-down Anoma is innovation, while bottom-up TG Bot is transformation. Anoma starts from an intent-based underlying architecture, but the team's progress is slow; TG Bot, although providing users with a new on-chain interaction interface, is not smart enough and has many security risks.

Both paths lead to the same goal, which is to simplify the user interaction experience by introducing a new programmable and customizable user interaction interface - User Intent Layer(用户意图层), allowing users to bypass complex on-chain interactions and define transaction status based on intent.

02. AI is the new UI: Command Interaction VS Intent Interaction

AI is introducing the third paradigm of user interface in computer history, shifting towards a new interaction mechanism where users tell the computer what they want rather than how to do it.

Three types of user interface paradigms:

  1. Batch Processing
  2. Command-based Interaction Design
  3. Intent-based result specifications

Behind the explosive rise of TG Bot: Intentional trading is knocking on the door of intelligent interactions in Web3

Every revolution in interaction modes throughout history has led to entirely new business models. LLM-based generative AI brings disruptive changes to human-computer interaction, transforming interactions with various software UIs into interactions with the Chatgpt chat window, which is an unprecedented experience. LLM + crypto introduces a new proposition based on intent interaction in the crypto world. By discovering and describing user intentions, LLM has the potential to make blockchain interactions smarter.

03. The Evolution of the Concept of Intent, Interaction Paradigms, Current Status, and Trends

Intent is not a new concept; it has existed since the Web2 era. With the rise of search engines like Google, users can input their intent, and the search engine provides relevant results to satisfy that intent.

With the rise of e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and eBay, there has been a significant shift in intent-based architecture, allowing users to express their intent to purchase products while the platform manages logistics. In 2017, Gartner officially introduced the concept of Intent-based Networking(, presenting users with an interface where they only need to express what they want, and the platform handles the business details.

Intent-based networking is the trend of network automation and intelligence in the Web2 era. Andrew Lerner, Vice President of Research at Gartner, pointed out in 2017 that intent-based networking will be the next milestone in the field of networking.

In the evolution from Web2 to Web3, the concept of intent in Web3 is not clear, but there are some common understandings:

  • Paradigm Definition: Intent is a set of declarative constraints that allows users to delegate the creation of transactions to a specialized network of third-party participants while retaining full control over the process.

  • Anoma definition: Intent is the message sent by the user to express custom preferences, defining constraints on what the system can do, rather than a specific execution path.

  • Propellerheads definition: An intention that requires assistance from others in a transaction, simplifying complex transactions by outsourcing the difficult parts to third parties.

In real use cases of intent-based transactions in Web3, users create intents off-chain, outsource to parsers off-chain, encapsulating the complexity of blockchain interactions while retaining full control over the process on-chain for users, thereby lowering the threshold for on-chain interactions.

The intention is to bring the LLM architecture concept - intent centric), an architecture centered around user intent(. Currently, the cryptographic protocols and infrastructure related to intent centric are embedded in the interaction layer between users and Crypto, leveraging LLM to provide a better on-chain interaction experience.

LLM+Crypto brings a new paradigm of human-computer interaction, allowing users' intentions to be directly converted into smart contract calls. Users only need to express their intentions like using Siri, and a robot/AI agent/third-party parser can help complete complex on-chain operations. In the future, intent-based Web3 interaction intelligence has the potential to greatly reduce the complexity of users' on-chain interactions.

More and more Web3 projects are exploring the magic of intent. Whether it's intent-based Dapps or intent-based underlying architectures, they are unlocking the potential of intent from different angles. We attempt to organize this rapidly evolving field and categorize it into four main types from an interaction perspective, tracking the latest status and trends:

  1. The infrastructure ) is intent-centric intent architecture layer (

    • DappOS: The first intent-centric Web3 operating protocol
    • Flash 2.0 SUAVE: Independent plug-and-play modular MEV full-chain sorting layer
    • Anoma: Intent-Centric Universal Dapp Architecture
    • Cow Protocol: Build an underlying settlement network for traders and solvers
  2. Supporting facilities ) related to intent and supporting infrastructure related to account abstract wallets (

    • ERC 4337
    • Account abstraction related: packer infrastructure, wallet SDK
    • Intent-related: Juvix, Seaport, Gelato, okcontract, Delegatable, Hyper Oracle, symmio
  3. Enterprise application ) integration Dapp's intent infrastructure, API, modular intent layer, specific domain parser (

    • Trading Parser API: PropelleHeads
    • Intent API: EnsoFinance
    • Intent Trading Infrastructure: Bob the Solver, Brink
    • Composable Intent Tool: Essential
  4. The smart interface for user interaction in consumer applications such as wallets, Dex, Web3 AI Agents, and smart search engines ).

    • Wallet: Safe, Bitconomy, Argent, Ambire, Sequence, Versa, A3SProtocol
    • Dex: CowSwap, Paraswap, Uniswap, 1inch, BananaHq, basedmarkets
    • Intelligent Frontend: Unibot, Dora, Web3 Analytics, kaito.ai

The Surge of TG Bot: The Intent to Trade is Knocking on the Door of Intelligent Web3 Interactions

The intent-based architecture, supporting facilities, and enterprise applications attempt to address the underlying challenges of intent realization, but infrastructure cannot be built overnight. The trend of intent consumer application layers is what is truly exciting, as the evolution of interaction gateways such as wallets and DEX demonstrates the potential for intelligent interaction.

Wallet Intelligence: ERC-4337 introduces a new user intent layer ( UserOps ), where users express intent, and then the packager converts these intents into executable signed transactions. In recent months, the number of ERC4337 users has significantly increased, with ZeroDev, Biconomy, and Safe modular smart accounts being the most motivated to drive AA+ intent, potentially paving the way for the arrival of wallet intelligence ( SCW ).

The Rise of TG Bot: Intention Trading is Knocking on the Door of Intelligent Interaction in Web3

The transition of DEX architecture: Intent Based Trading ( aims to enhance capital efficiency and user interaction experience. CoW Hooks links complex actions such as trading, bridging, staking, and deposits together, while UniswapX allows users to sign intent for off-chain matching and on-chain settlement. Similar Intent-based DEXs like BananaHq, Brink, and basedmarkets are gradually increasing, and a new Intent-based RFQ narrative ) SYMMIO ( is unfolding. As more DEXs and aggregators shift towards intent-based architecture, the DEX landscape is undergoing significant changes.

Intelligent interaction entry: Similar to the transformation of Web3 front-end interaction interfaces by TG Bot, the interaction entry focuses on understanding user intentions and systematically converting them into automated, actionable tasks. Not only TG Bot-like trading robots, but also Web3 AI Agents and Web3 intelligent search engines are making Web3 interactions more intelligent.

04. Challenges and Prospects of Intelligent Interaction in Web3

The interactive experience of Web3 products in the past hindered large-scale adoption, while the wealth creation effect on-chain masked many product issues. Now, liquidity and user attention are fragmented, and on-chain liquidity is scarce.

At the ETHCC conference in July, developers widely discussed the future of intent-centric approaches, exploring how to help users interact with DAPPs more intelligently in Web3. However, there are still many challenges to overcome for intent-centric applications to be implemented.
